The optimal osmotic agent to treat intracranial hypertension in patients with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) remains uncertain. We aimed to test whether the choice of mannitol or hypertonic saline (HTS) as early (first 96 h) osmotherapy in these patients might be associated with a difference in mortality. Epileptic seizures as a manifestation of cow's milk allergy: a studied relationship and description of our pediatric experience

Adverse reactions after ingestion of cow's milk proteins can occur at any age, from birth and even amongst exclusively breast-fed infants, although not all of these are hypersensitivity reactions. The most common presentations related to cow's milk protein allergy are skin reactions, failure to thrive, anaphylaxis as well as gastrointestinal and respiratory disorders. In addition, several cases of cow's milk protein allergy in the literature have documented neurological involvement, manifesting with convulsive seizures in children. Tumors of the central nervous system in children and adolescents.

Multimodal treatment approaches for children with tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) have markedly contributed to improved survival. Before 1970, the survival rate among children with medulloblastoma, the most common malignant CNS tumor in children, was about 20%. At present, in contrast, cure can be achieved in more than 75% of children with a favorable constellation of risk factors. Doubling Recruitment of Pediatric Low-grade Glioma within Two Decades does not change Outcome – Report from the German LGG Studies

Successive multicenter studies for pediatric low-grade glioma (LGG) in Germany were accompanied by a doubling of annual recruitment over 2 decades. We investigated whether this increase conveyed a change of epidemiologic characteristics or survival.Participating centers reported 4634 patients with the radiologic/histologic diagnosis of LGG (1996-2018), rising from 109 to 278/year. Brain protein expression changes in WAG/Rij rats, a genetic rat model of absence epilepsy after peripheral lipopolysaccharide treatment

Peripheral injection of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) facilitates 8–10 Hz spike-wave discharges (SWD) characterizing absence epilepsy in WAG/Rij rats. It is unknown however, whether peripherally administered LPS is able to alter the generator areas of epileptic activity at the molecular level. Slow waves represent one of the prominent EEG signatures of non-rapid eye movement (non-REM) sleep and are thought to play an important role in the cellular and network plasticity that occurs during this behavioral state.
